Week Two CSA- June 21, 23

Warm temperatures + ample rain = abundant weeds! We've been busy liberating your produce from the weeds this week. Hoeing, hand weeding, discing new beds- all part of being in the throes of summertime.

We note that your may need to give your fruit & veggies an extra rinse this week. We always dip the produce in chilled tanks of fresh water (our aquifer is spring fed on the farm), but that isn't enough to get all the sand and matter off of them. Once I went on retreat with the illustrious Buddhist monk Thich Naht Hanh. Here's what he says about finding joy in mundane tasks and bringing our hearts to bear in each task:

Wash every bowl, every dish as if you are bathing a baby - breathing in, feeling joy; breathing out, smiling.

Every minute can be a holy, sacred minute. Where do you seek the spiritual? You seek the spiritual in every ordinary thing that you do every day. Sweeping the floor, watering the vegetables, and washing the dishes become holy and sacred if mindfulness is there. With mindfulness and concentration, everything becomes spiritual.

- Thich Nhat Hanh, in "How to Eat"

Your box will contain: arugula, basil, carrots, garlic scapes, head lettuce, pea shoots (use for garnish and please let us know what you think of them!), radishes, snow peas and strawberries.

We would love to see you at our St. John's/Summer Solstice Festival from 4-7 at the farm.

St. John's Tide (June 24)
The radiant beauty of the world
Compels my inmost soul to free
God-given powers of my nature
That they may soar into the cosmos,
To take wing from myself
And trustingly to seek myself
In cosmic light and cosmic warmth.

-Rudolf Steiner
